Stern radio „Camping“

Portable radio with swiveling handle

The “Camping” travel radio (28.0 x 7.0 x 17.0 cm) has a white plastic case and a light blue front cover. The radio’s narrow, rectangular format and the moveable, metal and plastic handle make it easy to transport. It has an extractable antenna and is battery-operated. In addition to the four buttons and three dials on the top of the radio, there is also a radio-wave indicator. The turquoise front side is structured by vertical bars and double-rowed slits over the loudspeaker. The radio, which was designed in 1968 by Michael Stender, was produced by VEB Stern-Radio Berlin, the only GDR manufacturer to produce portable radios (from 1962 onwards). The logo “RFT” shown on the front of the radio stood for “Radio und Fernmelde-Technik”, referring to the industrial sector of information technology and measuring systems.
